Offer the most breathtaking views of the lake, the mountains, and Tahoe's only island - Fannette Island. Both of these parks have campgrounds, opportunities for hiking, swimming, fishing, and interpretive activities. The D.L. Bliss State Park has a wonderful beach on Rubicon Bay which is also a trailhead for the Rubicon Point Trail that continues to Vikingsholm Castle- the most popular attraction on the west end of Emerald Bay. 63,475-acre wilderness area with hundreds of glacial lakes, sub-Alpine forests, valleys and granite peaks. Visitors will find Desolation in its natural form and on its own terms - meaning sudden storms, fires and other hazards may be encountered. Required wilderness permits can be obtained and self-issued at most of the trailheads for day hikes, or at U.S. Forest Service offices on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe for overnights. Lake Baron for fishing opportunities as well as excellent calm water for skiing or wake boarding. Tennis courts and the clubhouse, which features a wading pool and full size roasting spit. The lower section, along the banks of the Upper Truckee River, holds the playground, ball field, basketball court, and a large picnic area with group and individual areas. The park is administered by the Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District (530) 577-9881 and the clubhouse or group areas can be reserved through that number. Directions - Follow Hwy 50 from South Lake Tahoe to Meyers. Turn right on Apache Drive just before the agricultural checkpoint. Turn left when the road ends, head to the end.

Tahoe Rim Trail

The Tahoe Rim Trail is a 165 mile hiking, equestrian, and in some areas, mountain biking trail around the ridge tops of Lake Tahoe. The non profit Tahoe Rim Trail Association is the trail steward and caretaker, organizing the maintenance program in conjunction with the US Forest Service and NV State Parks. Former site of the 100-year-old Tallac Resort. In its days of glory, the resort included two large hotels, a casino, and numerous annexes and out-buildings. Nowadays, the site is home to Valhalla community events center and its annual Valhalla Festival of Arts and Music. Exhibits on the Baldwin family-the former proprietors of the Tallac Hotel, and on the Washoe Indian Tribe can be seen at the Tallac (Baldwin) Museum located also within the site.
